Universitatea Cluj waited 53 years to return to the European Cups but had to play in Sibiu because of the UNTOLD festival. The fans turned out in large numbers to support the team, but the 'studenții' succumbed to Armenian team Ararat-Armenia, losing 1-2 after extra time. The defeat marked a sad evening despite the excitement of returning to European competition.
