Two supporters of the Saint-Étienne team, aged 28, were sentenced to seven months of suspended prison after throwing coins at assistant referee Mahdi Rahmouni during a match against Olympique Lyon on April 20.
The prosecutor requested nine months of suspended prison and a two-year ban from entering the stadium. The defendants' lawyers argued for acquittal, claiming that no connection was proven between the coin throwing and the referee's injury. The two suspects, a machinery operator and an electrician, admitted to the act, stating that they acted under the influence of alcohol. The referee suffered from edema and had a day of work incapacity, and the match was interrupted for 40 minutes.
