On Friday, at the stadium in the capital of Peru, Lima, a tragic incident occurred during a gathering of supporters of the football team Alianza Lima, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of 47 others, according to the Peruvian Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Velasco. Of the injured, 39 were hospitalized, and three are in critical condition. Initially, it was speculated that the incident was caused by the collapse of the stands, but both the club and the firefighters denied this hypothesis, stating that the stadium structure was in good condition. Alianza Lima club emphasized that the event was not caused by structural failures.

Following the incident, the derby between Alianza Lima and Universitario, scheduled for Saturday, will take place at another stadium in Lima, at 8:00 PM local time, according to the Peruvian Football League.
