The Scottish Federation has decided to also withdraw its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino, in the context of criticisms related to his plan to open the organization to private investors, a project later abandoned. Ian Maxwell, the federation's general director, stated that this decision aligns with UEFA's position, which they have consistently maintained.
Infantino, the only declared candidate for the FIFA presidential elections, has already lost the support of other federations, such as those from England, Ireland, and Wales. In an open letter, the UEFA, CONCACAF, and AFC confederations emphasized that football does not belong to a single person, highlighting issues of governance, lack of transparency, and dialogue with member federations. Maxwell underscored the need to correct these deficiencies, stating that transparency and governance must change, although the details remain to be discussed.
