The Cape Verde national team has achieved a historic performance, qualifying for the World Cup for the first time after a convincing 3-0 victory against Eswatini. The team won Group D, surpassing Cameroon, the favorite to qualify. With a population of just 525,000 inhabitants, Cape Verde becomes the second smallest country by population to reach a World Cup final tournament, after Iceland. The government has declared a half-day holiday to celebrate this achievement.
