Oțelul Galați announced on Tuesday the appointment of Croatian Stjepan Tomas as the head coach of the senior team, who will lead the first training session in his new role. Tomas, at the age of 50, signed a contract valid until the end of the season, with an option for extension. With extensive experience in European football, he has coached teams such as Antalyaspor, Rizespor, Göztepe, Sheriff Tiraspol, and NK Osijek, and his last coached team was Al-Okhdood Club in Saudi Arabia.
As a player, Tomas was a Croatian international for 18 years, having a remarkable career at clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb, Fenerbahçe, and Galatasaray. In a statement, he expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, wanting to bring the team back into European competitions and attract supporters to the stadium. Tomas will be assisted by Vlado Smit, assistant coach, and Lidio Melis, fitness coach, both having experience working with him at various clubs. Oțelul Galați recently parted ways with coach Laszlo Balint.
