Stan Wawrinka achieved a dramatic victory in the second round of the Australian Open, facing Arthur Gea in a match that lasted 4 hours and 33 minutes, with a final score of 4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3). During the match, a spectator dropped a beer can on the court, and Wawrinka, at the age of 40, bent down to take a few sips from it before returning it.
After the match, in the on-court interview, the Swiss joked about the incident, saying he might drink a beer to recover, referring to the beer spilled by the fan. Wawrinka will face American Taylor Fritz, the 9th seed, in the next round.
