Sorana Cîrstea announced her withdrawal from the WTA tournament in Adelaide due to an injury to her right ankle. The Romanian player managed to reach the main draw after defeating Ulrikke Eikeri and Kamilla Rakhimova, but she will no longer be able to compete in the opening round against the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.
Following this withdrawal, Jaqueline Cristian remains the only representative of Romania in the competition, having a match scheduled in the round of 16 against Daria Kasatkina. Additionally, Gabriela Ruse was eliminated in the opening round by Anna Kalinskaya, with a score of 6-0, 6-3. The WTA Adelaide tournament takes place from January 11-17 on hard courts, being part of the WTA 500 category, with total prizes of $1,206,446, and the defending champion is Madison Keys.
