The draw for the 2026 Australian Open was not at all friendly to the players from Romania. Sorana Cîrstea will play in the first round against Eva Lys, ranked 39th in the WTA. Last year, the German reached the round of 16, coming in as a lucky loser.
The toughest mission in the first round falls to Jaqueline Cristian. The Romanian will face Karolina Muchova, former world number 8 and currently ranked 19th in the WTA, a seed in this edition.
Gabriela Ruse will also have a complicated debut, as she is set to face Dayana Yastremska, a seed and ranked 26th in the WTA.
