Sorana Cîrstea dominated the first set of the first round match at Wimbledon, winning it in just 27 minutes. In the second set, the Romanian needed a tie-break to close the match, missing an opportunity to finish the match at 6-5. Although she had three consecutive chances to win, Bejlek equalized at 6-6, but Cîrstea prevailed with 8-6. The Romanian converted four of the seven break points, while her opponent managed only two out of eight. Cîrstea saved six of the eight break points against her and won 53.1% of the points played. On serve, she had a percentage of 70.3% and won 67.3% of the points played with her first serve. In the second round, Cîrstea will face Australian Kimberly Birrell. This victory keeps Cîrstea as the only representative of Romania in the main singles draw at Wimbledon, after the elimination of other Romanian players. Her best performance at Wimbledon remains reaching the third round, achieved five times in her career.
