Sorana Cîrstea became the first player from Romania to advance to the second round at this year's edition of the Roland Garros tournament, on the day Gabriela Ruse withdrew.
Seeded number 18, Sorana faced the Frenchwoman Ksenia Efremova, ranked 625th in the world, and achieved a clear victory in two sets, with a score of 6-3, 6-1, in a match that lasted one hour and 12 minutes. She will face the winner between Petra Marcinko and Eva Kys in the second round.
On the same day, Gabriela Ruse withdrew from the match against Magdalena Frech in the second set due to medical issues.
