Sorana Cîrstea managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the women's tennis tournament in Hong Kong, a competition with total prizes of $275,000. The tournament's seventh seed, Sorana came back from 0-1 in sets and won the match against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, ranked 86th in the world, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, after a confrontation lasting almost two and a half hours.
"A very tough match. Ajla is a very good friend of mine, it's not easy to play against someone with whom you have a very close relationship. I'm glad I won, but I feel bad that I had to play against Ajla," Cîrstea said at the end of the match.
In the quarter-finals, Sorana will meet the winner between Eva Lys and Leylah Fernandez (the tournament's second seed).
