Shane Christie, an athlete who played for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and for the New Zealand Maori, was found dead on Wednesday morning at his home in Nelson. During his lifetime, he suspected that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition.
