WTA Indian Wells 2026: Jaqueline Cristian and Sorana Cîrstea have qualified for the second round of the tournament! Gabriela Ruse has been eliminated.

First to enter the competition was Sorana Cîrstea, who defeated Tatjana Maria, with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. In the second round, Cîrstea will face Diana Shnaider, the number 21 seed. The two players have met only once before, in the round of 16 at the Austin tournament, when Cîrstea won 2-1 in sets.

Gabriela Ruse, ranked 74th in the WTA rankings, was eliminated on Wednesday in the first round. The Romanian athlete lost her match against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, who is ranked 85th in the world. The match ended with a score of 7-5, 6-2 in favor of the Australian player.

Jaqueline Cristian qualified for the second round at Indian Wells, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6) against Indonesian Janice Tjen. She will compete in the second round against Australian Maya Joint, ranked 29th in the world and seeded 29.

Players who qualify for the second round also secure a prize of $36,110 and 35 points. Those eliminated in the first round receive $24,335 and 10 points.
