The Romanian team, consisting of Ruxandra Bertea, Gabriela Lee, Mara Gae, and Monica Niculescu, achieved a convincing victory of 3-0 against New Zealand in the playoff for the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Bertea defeated Vivian Yang 6-2, 6-1, while Lee won her match against Elyse Tse, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Gae and Niculescu defeated the team made up of Jade Otway and Erin Routliffe, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. Romania will play against Poland on Sunday at the Gorzow Arena, with the matches being part of Group B of the playoffs. The 7 winning teams from the groups will advance to the 2026 qualifiers, while the other 14 will compete in Group I.
