The Romanian national basketball team achieved a historic victory against Greece, winning 73-66 in the qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup.

The Tricolors won 73-66 (16-18, 19-20, 16-20, 22-8) in a match from Group B of the qualifiers. Greece is the bronze medalist from the last European Championship. Romania last defeated Greece in seniors in 1975. In the last group match, the Tricolors will play on Sunday, away, against Montenegro.

The main scorers of the match were Russell 20 points, Tohătan 13, Măciucă 9, Căţe 8, for Romania, and Larentzakis 16, Charalampopoulos 13, Mitrou-Long 12, for Greece.

In the group standings, Greece is in first place with 8 points, followed by Montenegro, also with 8 points. Portugal and Romania are in 3rd and 4th places, both with 7 points.

The top three teams qualify for the next stage of the qualifiers.

Romania will play on Sunday (July 5) the last group match, away, against Montenegro, in Bar.
