Luis Hernandez, a deputy sheriff in Miami-Dade County, will make his UFC debut against American fighter Sedriques Dumas at UFC Vegas in Las Vegas, after Mickey Gall withdrew in the final week due to an injury.
The last-minute change created one of the most unusual matchups in the organization’s history. Hernandez, nicknamed “The Stache,” is the first active-duty police officer to fight in the UFC. He earned a contract with Dana White’s organization two weeks ago on Dana White’s Contender Series.
The Florida fighter has an undefeated record of eight wins, including five by submission and three by knockout. His opponent, Sedriques Dumas, has a complicated legal history, however. He has been arrested 14 times since 2014 and four times since joining the UFC in 2023.
In April 2025, Dumas was jailed in Escambia County after being charged in a burglary and firearm possession case. In February 2024, he had been arrested following a verbal altercation with police officers and allegations of disorderly conduct.
Dumas poked fun at the situation in an artificial intelligence-generated video featuring him alongside Hernandez, with one dressed in a police uniform and the other in inmate clothing.
