Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, has announced his return from international retirement, having been named the starter for the German team for the World Cup by coach Julian Nagelsmann. He decided to call Neuer back after initially designating Oliver Baumann as the starter. Neuer, at the age of 40, will participate in his fifth World Cup, thus joining a select group of players who have participated in 5 or more World Cups. He also had a solid season with Bayern, which can win the domestic double.
Germany, which will play in Group E against Curacao, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast, aims to win its fifth world title, after having surprising exits in the opening round in the last two editions. Nagelsmann emphasized that all players must demonstrate their value daily.
