The Netherlands won the European Under-19 Football Championship in Romania, beating Spain 1-0, thanks to an own goal by goalkeeper Raul Jimenez. This is the first time the Netherlands has won the title, becoming only the second country after Germany to have won every UEFA national team competition. Coach Peter van der Veen won another Under-17 continental title in 2019. The Netherlands won all five matches in the tournament and Kees Smit was named best player.
