Mjallby AIF has won the first major trophy in the club's history. The team from the small village of Hallevik defeated IFK Goteborg 2-0 away and claimed the title in Allsvenskan. With the 2-0 victory achieved on Monday at IFK Göteborg's ground, Mjällby secured an 11-point lead with three matches remaining.
Just nine years ago, Mjällby was on the brink of relegation to the fourth league. The team then avoided disaster, achieving two consecutive promotions in 2018 and 2019, and was revitalized by the decisions and strategies implemented by Magnus Emeus, a local businessman who became the club's president in 2015.
Mjällby will play next season in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League, marking the first time the club will participate in a European competition.
