On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Daniil Medvedev, the Russian tennis player, suffered a humiliating defeat at the Monte Carlo tournament, losing for the first time in his career with a score of 0-6, 0-6 against the Italian Matteo Berrettini. The match lasted only 51 minutes, and Medvedev committed 5 double faults and 27 unforced errors, while Berrettini took advantage of his opponent's weaknesses. This is Berrettini's first victory against Medvedev, after the Russian had won all three previous encounters. Medvedev, known for his temperament, emotionally broke down during the match, destroying his racket.

In a previous interview, he admitted that he has issues with controlling his emotions on the court, comparing himself to a boiling kettle. Throughout his career, Medvedev has won 23 ATP titles, including a Grand Slam at the US Open 2021, but he has also lost three finals at the Australian Open. This defeat represents a significant negative moment in his sporting journey.
