Lothar Matthaus, former world champion with the German national team and winner of the Ballon d'Or in 1990, has accepted the role of ambassador for the Bengal Super League (BSL), a regional league in India, announced by promoter Shrachi Sports. Matthaus, at the age of 64, stated that this project has great potential and that he will use his experience to support the development of football in Bengal.
BSL, launched in July 2025, aims to create a professional ecosystem, improve training, and attract international partnerships, especially with German institutions. The league will include eight teams that will play 61 matches, aiming to give Bengal a central place in Indian football.
