Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova, the 2024 champion, was defeated by Russian Anastasia Zaharova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, on Monday, in the first round of the Transylvania Open (WTA 250).
Pliskova (416 WTA), former world number one in 2017, bowed out after one hour and 53 minutes, in her first encounter with Zaharova (107 WTA).
