Karolina Muchova, the world number 9, managed to qualify for the semifinals of the Wimbledon tournament after a victory against Japan's Naomi Osaka, the world number 14, with a score of 7-6 [4], 6-4.
The two players met again ten days after the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, where Muchova had defeated Osaka by retirement. In this round, Osaka was eliminated shortly after defeating world number 1, Arina Sabalenka. Muchova will play her first semifinal at Wimbledon, after reaching the quarterfinals in 2019 and 2021.
In the semifinals, she will face American Coco Gauff, ranked 7th, with whom she has a history of five losses in the last six direct confrontations, although she won the last match played in April in Stuttgart.
