The Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, the world number one, qualified for the third round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament on Wednesday after defeating the Portuguese Nuno Borges, ranked 48th in the ATP, with a score of 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/2), 6-4.

Sinner, the champion from last year, thus achieved his 95th victory in Grand Slam tournaments, setting a new record for an Italian player, surpassing Nicola Pietrangeli. In the opening round, Sinner had a more difficult mission, defeating the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets. His next opponent will be the American Jenson Brooksby, ranked 81st in the world.

The results from Wednesday's men's singles event also include other notable matches, such as the victories of Flavio Cobolli and Frances Tiafoe.
