Istvan Kovacs has been appointed by UEFA to officiate the match between AS Roma and Bologna, in the return leg of the Europa League round of 16, after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. This will be the first match that Kovacs will referee after being criticized for his controversial decisions in the match between Rapid and Dinamo, in which the Giulești team won 3-2. Among the disputed decisions was the failure to award a foul in favor of Musi for the goal scored by Claudiu Petrila.
Kovacs will be assisted by Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi, while Szabolcs Kovacs will be the fourth official. In the VAR room will be Tiago Martins and Bram Vam Driessche. This season, Kovacs has officiated six matches in the UEFA Champions League, the last being on February 25, between PSG and AS Monaco.
