Gianluca Prestianni, the player of Benfica, was sanctioned with a six-match suspension after being found guilty of homophobic behavior towards Vinicius Jr. from Real Madrid.
On February 17, in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, which Real Madrid won 1-0, Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior, after scoring the only goal of the match, approached the referee and accused Prestianni of making racist insults.
French referee François Letexier interrupted the match, played at Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, and activated the anti-racism protocol, resuming the game almost 10 minutes later.
The sanction imposed by UEFA must be served in matches from European competitions or with the national team of Argentina.
Of the six matches, three are suspended for a period of two years, and the suspension also includes one match that Prestianni served as a provisional suspension in February.
