French tennis player Gael Monfils announced on Wednesday on social media that he will retire from professional activity at the end of the 2026 season.

Born on September 1, 1986, in Paris, Monfils has been a professional player since 2004, and his highest ranking in the world hierarchy was 6th, on November 7, 2016, currently holding the 53rd place.

"After celebrating my 39th birthday a month ago, I want to share with you that next year will be my last as a professional player. I have lived a privilege, that of turning my passion into a profession, and I have loved every moment of these 21 years of my career. Even though this sport means a lot to me, I am at peace with the decision to retire at the end of 2026," Monfils wrote on the X network.
