Pineida played with the Ecuador national team in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was the champion of Ecuador in 2016 with Barcelona and also played for the Brazilian club Fluminense.

The Ministry of the Interior of Ecuador has confirmed the information, adding that a special police unit "is working on the case".
