FIFA wants to implement two major changes for the 2026 World Cup

The VAR system is set to intervene for checking corners, a task that is not yet assigned to video arbitration. The intercontinental body wants to avoid discussions related to arbitration in the case of not awarding a corner kick during a match.

VAR is also set to intervene in the case of awarding a second yellow card to a player. Currently, video assistants can only intervene in the case of awarding a direct red card.
