The table tennis player Elizabeta Samara, part of the Romanian team that won bronze at the World Championships after 26 years, announced upon her return to the country that she has not received awards from the National Agency for Sport (ANS) for two years. Samara emphasized that, although she is motivated to continue, the lack of financial rewards affects her desire to play. Her teammates, Bernadette Szocs and Andreea Dragoman, also expressed dissatisfaction regarding the financial arrears, highlighting that their work is not appreciated without rewards.

The Romanian team obtained its first medal at the World Championships after 26 years, but was defeated in the semifinals by China. The bronze medal from London completes Romania's record in international competitions, where it ranks third in the all-time hierarchy.
