Athletic Bilbao won the Spanish Cup final after 40 years, beating Mallorca 4-2. The last trophy won by Athletic Bilbao came in the 1983/1984 season. The match was decided on penalties after two extra-time periods ended in a draw. To reach the final, Athletic Bilbao had eliminated the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
