Google has made a significant move by hiring Varun Mohan, co-founder of startup Windsurf, which specializes in AI for writing code. This integration also includes other senior members of Windsurf's team within Google DeepMind, and the total value of the deal is $2.4 billion. While Google is not investing directly in Windsurf, it has a non-exclusive license to its technologies. This move comes after Windsurf was in talks with OpenAI for an acquisition, but the exclusivity period expired. Google thus continues to attract talent from AI startups in a fierce competition for innovation in the field.
