Victor Osipov, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, announced that he was placed under judicial control about a month ago, but chose to make this public only now, citing reasons related to his defense in the criminal case in which he is involved. Osipov rejects the prosecutors' accusations, considering them unfounded, and states that he will continue to assert and support his innocence in court. He has referred the case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), citing the violation of the presumption of innocence and the formulation of accusations without evidence.

Osipov emphasizes that decisions regarding the duty-free shop regime in the Transnistrian region were adopted collegially by the Government and Parliament, denying personal responsibility for the accusation of abuse of office. The former Deputy Prime Minister was detained on March 24, 2026, in connection with the duty-free schemes in the Transnistrian region, and the investigation also targets former deputy Vladimir Andronachi, who is accused of contributing to the illegal amendment of legislation in 2015, which allegedly allowed the opening of these shops used for smuggling.
