On August 29, the Interinstitutional Supervisory Council of Moldova imposed sanctions on Dmitri Buimistru (photo) and Veaceslav Valico for activities that undermine the sovereignty of the country, in the context of hybrid operations carried out by Russia. Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that these measures are part of international efforts to combat Russian interference. Additionally, Canada announced sanctions against 16 individuals and two Moldovan organizations, including those affiliated with the criminal group Șor, for malign interference ahead of the parliamentary elections in 2025. The sanctions include asset freezes and bans on entry into Canada.
