The WatchDog study points out that Russian history textbooks rewrite historical facts, presenting the integration of Bessarabia into the Tsarist Empire and the Soviet Union as acts of reunification, denying its sovereignty. The Republic of Moldova is depicted as an artificial entity, and Romania is portrayed negatively, with the 1918 Union characterized as an 'occupation'. Recent events are also interpreted ideologically, arguing that the votes in Gagauzia and Transnistria to preserve the USSR legitimize separatism. This approach prepares young people for conflicts in former Soviet republics.
