Prior to the October report, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, said that Russian drones had violated the country’s airspace 39 times since the beginning of 2026 and called for the modernization of defense systems to be accelerated, warning that the risks were “real.” She mentioned that it could not be established with certainty whether each incident was accidental or a form of intimidation, but that, regardless of the reason, the violations endangered the population and infrastructure.
During the same period, the authorities in Chișinău also reported isolated incidents in the context of attacks on Ukraine: for example, a drone entered unauthorized from the direction of the locality of Verhnia Slobidka (Vinnytsia region) and disappeared from radar after 11 minutes, near the locality of Pepeni (Sîngerei District), without the authorities immediately specifying whether the aircraft had crashed.
