In a broadcast on TV8, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, discussed the importance of distinguishing between freedom of expression and manipulation techniques, such as the use of fake accounts. She emphasized that freedom of expression is meant for people, not fake accounts or bots that amplify inauthentic content. Sandu criticized online platforms for prioritizing profit at the expense of the health of democracy, mentioning that the Republic of Moldova is vulnerable to external influences.

Referring to a report from the USA suggesting that EU institutions would censor online content, Sandu stated that there is evidence in the Republic of Moldova and suggested that the report could be influenced by business interests. The EU spokesperson rejected the censorship allegations, stating that freedom of expression is a fundamental right. Additionally, the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, commented that the report does not directly refer to Romania, but to a broader discussion about freedom of expression and external influences in elections.
