The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, criticized the supporters of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who oppose the change of government due to possible economic effects. Peiu argues that Romania is already in an economic crisis under the current executive and considers the argument that dismissing the government would worsen the situation to be illogical.
He cites several negative economic indicators — high inflation, large budget and trade deficits, economic decline, and pension stagnation — to justify the need for the motion of no confidence initiated by AUR and PSD. For it to be adopted, 233 votes are needed in Parliament, given that the two parties together hold 219 mandates.
