The Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, announced that her draft law, which aims to sanction sexual harassment outside of work relationships, received a favorable opinion from the Economic and Social Council (CES), with 39 votes in favor and one against.
The project provides for the amendment of the Penal Code to extend criminal liability in cases of sexual harassment, regardless of the context in which it occurs. Buzoianu emphasizes that acts committed in work relationships will be considered aggravating. The project also includes the sanctioning of requests for sexual favors under pressure, in situations of victim vulnerability, such as caregiving, education, or dependency. Additionally, sexual harassment can be sanctioned even if it is committed only once, if it generates a state of fear.
