Álvaro García Ortiz, who has held the position since 2022, was also fined 7,300 euros and ordered to pay 10,000 euros in damages. The verdict was a blow to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who had supported the prosecutor's innocence. García Ortiz denied the allegations, and the journalists summoned to testify stated that they had not received information from him. The case sparked controversy regarding the politicization of the judicial system and reignited corruption allegations targeting Sánchez's family. Opposition leaders have called for the Prime Minister's resignation, accusing him of mismanaging justice.
