In his first public appearance in 2026, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that Romania will adopt the official position of the European Union regarding the US attacks in Venezuela, which led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
Bolojan emphasized that Romanian citizens in Venezuela are managed through the EU representation, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received information about security issues among them. The Prime Minister mentioned that Romania did not recognize Maduro's victory in the elections, considering them to be falsified.
He also expressed hope that the situation in Venezuela will lead to a transition to a stable democratic regime. Bolojan described the US operation as unusual and emphasized that Romania will collaborate with the European Union to maintain a unified position on this matter.
