Victor Negrescu, a social-democrat MEP, stated that Romania risks losing between 10 and 15 billion euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), according to the Ministry of Investments and European Projects. He emphasized that the modification of the PNRR must be coherent and well-negotiated with Brussels, with a deadline of May 31.
Negrescu proposed the creation of financial instruments to save unfinished projects until August 2026 and requested clarifications regarding the transfer of unfinished projects to structural funds. He also asked the ministries to present a clear list of necessary reforms, warning that the responsibility for not attracting funds will fall on the political parties. Criticism also came from MEP Adrian Axinia, who accused the governing parties of the failure of the PNRR, while Siegfried Mureșan mentioned that the absence of a fully empowered government hinders the legislation of necessary reforms.
