The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, announced that the country will receive 16.68 billion euros through the SAFE program, being the second largest amount allocated to an EU member state. These resources are intended for acquisitions, projects, and essential security investments, contributing to the creation of well-paid jobs and the modernization of transport infrastructure, including the completion of the Moldova Highway. The SAFE instrument is a temporary loan mechanism, created in response to the current security crisis, and represents an opportunity for Romania to invest in its own capabilities.
The European Commission has approved defense plans for eight member states, and Romania joins this group, having access to approximately 38 billion euros after signing the loan agreements.
