The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, is inclined not to attend the Council for Peace meeting scheduled for February in Washington, although he initially considered participating, according to sources from the Presidential Administration, cited by several publications in Romania.

According to the cited sources, "there are arguments both for attending and for refusing participation" at the meeting on February 19.

Romania has decided to postpone signing the accession to the Council for Peace initiated by Donald Trump, according to sources that say Romania could participate in the council's first meeting only if non-signatory countries of the Charter are also accepted. Thus, the main concern would be that countries that have not decided to officially join, like Romania, would be sidelined.

President Nicușor Dan received an invitation to participate in the first meeting of this council, scheduled for February 19 in Washington, but emphasized that the final decision regarding Romania's participation will be made after consultations with American partners. Nicușor Dan stated that Romania welcomes the efforts of the US Administration to promote peace and has begun discussions with the United States to verify the compatibility of the Council's Charter with the international commitments already undertaken.
