The interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, announced that a protocol is being discussed with the Ukrainian side to prevent incidents like the drone explosion in the Port of Constanţa.

The interim Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, announced that Romania is discussing with Ukraine a protocol to avoid incidents with drones, following the recent explosion in the Port of Constanța. Oana Țoiu stated that the Ministry of Defense has initiated a dialogue with the Ukrainian side immediately after the incident, aiming to minimize risks. The proposed protocol will allow for mutual alerting in case of loss of control over drones by Ukraine, ensuring that they are programmed to explode before entering Romanian territorial waters.

Additionally, elements have been established for an efficient exchange of information and common mechanisms to prevent similar incidents. Oana Țoiu emphasized the importance of collaboration for national security.

"First of all, a protocol that allows us to mutually alert each other regarding possible risks. Obviously, this is more of Ukraine's right at the moment when they identify that they have lost, for example, the connection or control of certain drones. Also, the need for them to be programmed in such a way that this explosion option, which is pre-programmed, cannot occur in our territorial waters and if it poses a security risk in this regard. Elements have also been established regarding a common protocol to ensure both timely information exchange and common mechanisms to prevent incidents of this nature and the next steps in this direction," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
