The interim Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, addressed the speculation regarding the absence of Piranha armored vehicles from the acquisitions through the SAFE program, calling them fake news.
He explained that the offer received for Piranha was approximately 10 million euros per unit, 2.5 times higher than the price paid by Romania in March 2026, which was 4 million euros. Miruță emphasized that the acquisition criteria had not changed and that the new price exceeded the limit approved by Parliament, making it impossible to legally contract the offer. He also mentioned that the funds had been redirected to other equipping programs to avoid losing resources.
Radu Miruță assured that the Ministry of National Defense was assisted by 50 professionals to verify compliance with the conditions approved by Parliament, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in the procurement process.
