Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced Tuesday evening on TVR that the Romanian state must enforce the court rulings recognizing salary rights owed to magistrates that have not yet been paid. The head of government proposed that the arrears be paid in installments, following a dialogue with the beneficiaries, amid pressure on the budget and existing tensions.
Niculescu emphasized that the rulings are final and that the authorities must fulfill their legal obligations. The prime minister stated that government members are already discussing how the dialogue with the magistrates will be conducted and possible proposals for installment payments.
“An amount like this is substantial,” the prime minister said, without specifying the total value of the arrears, while insisting that payment cannot be avoided. He argued that direct dialogue could reduce tensions and said he expected a favorable outcome.
