Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that Romania cannot support retirement at ages 48-50 and that the retirement age must be raised in all sectors, including for employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) and the Ministry of National Defense (MApN). Bolojan emphasized that working conditions must be taken into account, suggesting that employees in operational fields could have a different retirement threshold compared to those in offices.
He stated that, in order to have a stable pension system and a healthy economy, the retirement age should approach 65 years. The Prime Minister highlighted that Romania is facing a decline in the active population, which makes the financial support of early retirement impossible. He also mentioned that the Constitutional Court of Romania has postponed a decision regarding the reform of judges' pensions, which includes raising the retirement age.
