PNL President Ilie Bolojan announced that the liberals are considering concluding a bilateral political agreement with designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu for a period of six months. The agreement would not turn PNL into a governing party, but would establish the conditions under which the party could support certain measures of the future Executive.
According to Bolojan, PNL would remain in opposition and would not initiate or vote for motions of no confidence against the Niculescu Government during the first six months, provided that the prime minister respects the objectives assumed under the agreement. The liberals’ support would not be unconditional.
PNL is calling for compliance with the budget deficit target, the maintenance of fiscal discipline, the protection of investments, the responsible use of public funds, and respect for European commitments. The liberals say they are willing to vote for the 2027 state budget as well, if it is realistic, based on revenues that can actually be collected, and continues fiscal consolidation.
Bolojan specified that PNL is not seeking positions and is not negotiating ministries, but guarantees for financial stability and the continuation of reforms. The announcement comes amid negotiations to form the new Government. Luca Niculescu intends to present the list of ministers and the governing program to Parliament on Thursday, October 15.
